The Common Ground Foundation marked its 25th anniversary with a star-studded gala, “Chicago Nights, Brighter Futures,” held on October 4 at The Geraghty, drawing Chicago’s cultural, civic and philanthropic elite to raise both awareness and funds for youth-focused programs. Cochairs for the evening included Marc and Tiffany Lue Brooks, Pierre and Melody Cooper, Dede and Laird Koldyke and Phyllis Lockett and Terry Peterson.

The sold-out event unfolded against a backdrop of musical performances, celebrity appearances, auctions and speeches that underscored the Foundation’s mission of empowering youth. Jennifer Hudson delivered a set of emotionally resonant performances that drew on her vocal power and Chicago roots, while Common, the foundation’s cofounder, served as both master of ceremonies and symbolic anchor of the evening’s themes of uplift and possibility.

Gala attendees included luminaries such as Cedric the Entertainer, Magic Johnson, former Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Anthony Anderson, whose presence helped amplify the event’s profile and message. As guests dined and bid on auction lots, speakers paused to reflect on the stories of young people whose lives have been shaped by the Foundation’s mentoring, arts, education and leadership programs over the past quarter century.
